Easter

We had a very happy Easter. The weather was great for the church activites on Saturday in KC and in Lebo on Sunday.

It was nice that Sarah and I were able to split up since our kids were split into 2 age groups. I took Brett and Porter and she took Brady & Cameron for the egg hunt.

We were so happy that everyone was able to spend Easter together in Lebo - especially thankful this guy was home.

Healing Hands

While Garrett and Brady were playing in the snow Saturday, we all heard a thud hit the window and thought the boys must have thrown a snowball or something. But pretty soon they were knocking at the front door to show us a bird (a robin? I know nothing about birds, but I'm pretty sure everyone was saying robin :) that had flown into the window and was hurt.



So a nest of hay was created inside a box by the front door so the bird could stay warm and "get better." When I peeked out a little later, I asked them where the bird was and they said in the box but right when I opened the door a bird flew away from the front porch - I'm guessing it was the hurt bird.

We were all happy that the bird was "healed" and it was a happy ending!

Now I just need to learn how to crochet. . . . .

Happy Valentines Day!

Ed got me tickets to the Norah Jones concert for Valentine's Day. (Unusual for us, but we were able to spend a night out the last 2 weekends at the Power & Light district - very fun place, especially when its nice outside.) However, when Ed asked me yesterday afternoon where the concert tickets were, I was a little panicked. I HAD NO IDEA. Luckily, TicketMaster was able to get us new tickets for our seats!!

The concert was awesome. It might be the first time where I thought the concert music sounded SO much better than the CDs and I like the CDs. Her voice is AMAZING and the Midland Theatre was beautiful. (On a side note, I had no idea how short she is.)





After the concert we headed over to the center of the Power & Light district because Gretchen Wilson was having a free concert outside right after the PBR. We caught her last few songs (Red Neck Cowgirl being her last one) - fun atmosphere!



And they had the fires going - it was so nice to BE OUTSIDE this weekend.

This morning

This morning Brett and I joined Brady at his school so I could read a Dr. Seuss book to his class ("Celebrity reader" - I read Horton Hatches the Egg).

When I reminded Brett that we were going to Kindergarten, he said "Because I'm 5 now?!"



Both boys were playing with my old phone this morning (and sharing it - AMAZING concept) - on the way to school Brady said, "Mom, I don't think my wireless network is connected." (I found out later that's what the operator on the other end of the line had said :) For a moment, I couldn't imagine where this terminology had come from!

Cute

Something you may not know about me. . . . I have always had a thing for hound dogs. I see plenty of cute dogs at the local dog park, but the hound dogs are always the ones who I have to stop and look at and say, "oh, how cute!"

And then they start making horrific sounds and I second guess my dream of having a hound dog. But, just maybe, someday, I'll get one (in addition to a pack of goldens :).

Meals for Haiti

We volunteered at the Salvation Army's "Million Meals for Haiti" Saturday morning at the American Royal. There were hour shifts and kids were welcome, so we thought it was a great opportunity (and possibly a learning experience for Brady).




There were 12 people working at each table and the boys did great. I was in charge of using one of the bag sealer machines and Brady/Brett/Ed were in charge of shaking the bags to make sure they were sealed, labeling them with stickers and boxing them up. (I think they would have really enjoyed scooping the rice and weighing it, but we just lined up at the table like we went in.)




I was really proud of Brady. When we were getting ready to leave he said he would have stayed and done it longer (but it was lunch time and little britches was ready to jet). He drew pictures on the boxes when there was time and signed his name - pretty cool to think that maybe someone in Haiti will be looking at his drawings and wondering who Brady is.





Here's a couple pics of the "Fortified Rice-Soy Casserole" everyone was bagging up. Each bag was designed to feed approximately 6 people.





I saw on the news that the Salvation Army met their goal of 1 million meals!
